ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING-TELECOMMUNICATION OPTION
Introduction to:
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering-Telecommunication Option
The course is in modular form (3-modules) and is designed to impart the trainee with knowledge, skills and technical expertise with a view to designing, maintaining and trouble- shooting the telecommunication equipment and devices.
The training will prepare the graduates to fit well to the job market with the following key competencies being achieved:
- Interpret technical information for electrical installations specifically in the telecommunication systems
- Apply ICT skills in telecommunication systems and research
- Design and test electronics circuits
- Test and analyze telecommunication networks
- Have knowledge on the design and operation of all terrestrial communication systems
- Observe health and safety while dealing with telecommunications systems
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering-Power Option
The course is in modular form (3-modules) and is designed to impart the trainee with knowledge, skills and technical expertise in designing implementing, troubleshooting and maintaining both low current and heavy current electrical establishment.
The course is anchored largely the electrical installation for domestic and industrial wiring systems majorly connected mains power, both single and three phase systems.
Thus, the trainee is expected to undergo a rigorous training on, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Uphold high level of health and safety control measures when installing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical installations systems
- Appreciate the correct use of tools and equipment, determine appropriate types of cables for a particular purpose
- Understand the operations of all final sub circuits
- Outline and understand the electrical power systems: generation, transmission and distribution systems
- Provide maintenance and service to electrical equipment and cabling/wiring systems
- Appreciably gain technical skills for installation of various types of single-phase loads/ systems in industrial applications, manufacturing and production lines.
- Determine the protective devices for various final sub circuits and be able to trouble shoot them appropriately
- Gain deeper skills in fault finding and troubleshooting of all single phase and three phase loads and wiring systems
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering-Instrumentation and Control
The course is in modular form (3-modules). Instrumentation and control engineering is a branch of electrical and electronics engineering whose scope encompasses all aspects of digital and analogue control systems with fundamental emphasis on:
- The measurement and control of process variables,
- The design and implementation of systems that incorporate all process such as pressure, temperature, humidity, flow, pH, force and speed among others.
The graduate of this course will be able to
- Install, service and maintain control systems applied in instrumentation and control for all major industrial applications
- Observe environment, health and safety while practicing the discipline of instrumentation and control
- Fabricate and test control circuits based on digital and analogue electronics technologies
- Solar PV System
This is one of the short courses offered by the department. The emphasis is Competency Based Training (CBET). This area of study is designed to equip the trainee with knowledge, skills and competencies geared towards enabling them carry out installation, maintenance and operation of solar PV systems.
Electrical installation skills form the prerequisite knowledge for the study of this discipline. The training will impart knowledge and skills to the trainees to enable them become self-employed or work in the industries, institution, etc. as maintenance technicians of the solar PV system installation
By the end of the training program, the trainee should be able to:
- Understand the basic principles of solar systems
- Acquire the required skills when installing solar PV systems
- Perform solar pv system sizing for quality installation
- Design, implement and maintain solar PV system installations
- Institute quality control measures while installing solar PV system
