The Automotive engineering department is one of the oldest departments in the institute having opened its doors to the first batch of Artisan students in 1996. In 2002 the department had its first Craft (TEP) intake and continued at that level of training until 2015 when the first Diploma class was enrolled. Results have been encouraging all through.
Our core mandate is to train young Kenyans to fit in the motor industry and to equip them with knowledge, skills and attitudes in various disciplines to mould them in to all-rounded persons in the local market and beyond.
The department is well endowed with qualified, competent and dedicated members of staff ready to turn tables in their quest for the provision of quality skills, knowledge and attitudes.

All these are examined by KNEC in its June/July and Nov/Dec annual series.
The department intends to start the following new courses;
- Driving (classes BCE)
- Flexible and Blended learning (Community learning network) initiative.
- Adequate teaching staff
- Modern workshop with moderate training facilities.
- Well established linkages with industry for our students via the industrial liaison office.
